Mackintosh’s storied heritage dates back to 1824 at the dawn of the industrial revolution, when Scottish chemist Charles Macintosh invented a new method of waterproofing cotton. His discovery came to revolutionise textile technology and outerwear design with the birth of the Mackintosh coat, or “Mac” as it became known. The new waterproof fabric attracted the attention of the British aristocracy who were quick to adopt it for riding coats, while the British Army and railway service commissioned trench and car coats, laying the foundation for international success.
David Hellqvist is a London-based Writer, Art Director and Stylist, contributing to magazines like The New Order and Orienteer Magazine. He also runs Document Studios, a creative content agency working with global fashion brands on alternative storytelling and editorial communication.
For Spring/Summer 2022, we have collaborated with Save The Duck, the Italian brand specialising in 100% animal-free outerwear. The combination of the two brands' expertise and know-how has generated a Capsule Collection for the season, a perfect blend of both houses’ aesthetics.
The Duffle, originally known as the Convoy Coat, was once a staple of the British Naval wardrobe. It shielded sailors from the elements on the open Sea's, before eventually becoming an essential part of the classic preppy look loved by university students across the globe.

Cecilie Bahnsen's Studio Collection is based on the virtuous concepts of up-cycling and re-purposing, as the brand dedicates itself to implementing innovative initiatives to reduce waste. The collection is made entirely using material in the archive from past seasons. All Cecilie Bahnsen fabrics are made by hand in skilled mills across Europe, reflecting Cecilie’s obsession with couture handwork and craft - too precious to go to waste.

Shabaka Hutchings is a classically trained musician, who pushes the jazz tradition forward. He is part of the new wave redefining the genre for contemporary audiences. To date, Hutchings has released to critical acclaim seven studio albums and two EPs, alongside featuring on several other albums with highly respected artists.

We are honoured to be part of New Concepts at Nordstrom. Launching in January 2019, Nordstrom Men will introduce New Concepts, a platform for customers to discover the latest and best products in menswear.
Introduced as part of John Galliano's second co-ed collection, Maison Margiela have teamed up with Mackintosh to produce a modern adaptation of the classic Mackintosh trench silhouette.
Mackintosh 0004 is the fourth ready-to-wear collection designed by Kiko Kostadinov for Spring 2019. Each of Kostadinov’s collections have placed focus on a single material; 0001 using rubber, the fabric signature of Mackintosh, 0002 celebrating glass, and 0003 singling out felt. 0004 is based on the material lead. The 1968 image of artist Richard Serra hurling molten lead over the wall and floor of the Castelli Warehouse in New York, for his ‘Splash’ series, formed the starting point to the 0004 collection.

Kiko Kostadinov’s third collection for Mackintosh draws on the brand’s own past and their connection to the British Rail service. The idea of a mid-century British railway station symbolising the meeting point of engineers, conductors, drivers, labourers and passengers — and all of the literal and figurative uniforms that entails — informed the characters that are at the heart of 0003.

Mackintosh 0002 is the second ready-to-wear collection designed by Kiko Kostadinov for Spring 2018. Just as the last collection focused on rubber, this season focuses on the materiality of glass.
Mackintosh introduces a new premium line designed by Kiko Kostadinov for Autumn/Winter 2017. Entitled ‘Mackintosh 0001’, this collection consists of 10 ready-to-wear unisex looks. With each season a new conceptual narrative will be introduced to guide the design process, contextualising Mackintosh’s timeless qualities. Each season the collection will be numbered, allowing the capsule to be viewed as a new chapter each time as well as a continuation from what has come before.
